Pain and Symptom Management

Pain and Symptom ManagementHospice and palliative care are much different than other forms of medical care because it isn’t focused on curing the patient, it’s focused on making the patient comfortable. One of the most important ways we enact this approach is by managing pain and other symptoms associated with end of life care. Pain and general discomfort can result from a wide variety of sources, so the treatment plans we offer come in all shapes and forms.

General Symptom Relief- Common symptoms like difficulty breathing and nausea can greatly affect a patient’s day to day life. By alleviating these common symptoms, we can make a noticeable difference in the patient’s quality of life.

Pain Relief- Typically, the most effective way to treat pain is through medication. However, we are always careful to not over medicate the patient so they can still be coherent and enjoy time with their family.

Emotional Support- As part of a comprehensive care plan, we offer emotional and spiritual care. By treating the emotional symptoms that come with end of life care, we can improve the patient’s emotional state, which can have significant health benefits.

One of the most important ways to manage pain and symptoms is to carefully coordinate all treatment being administered to the patient. This includes treatment from our staff as well as from any other parties that may be involved.
